Remembering Katrina, Helping Through Harvey

Remembering Katrina, Helping Through Harvey

Hurricane Harvey has left a path of destruction in southeastern Texas. It’s a feeling many Louisiana residents know all too well, and we stand ready to help our neighbors.

As we commemorate the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we remember the compassion and hospitality our friends in Texas showed us in our greatest hour of need. I’m encouraged by the outpouring of support and help so many people of Louisiana have offered. I’ll continue to keep those in Texas in my prayers.

As a Louisiana resident, you …

Advocate: Schroder Leads Republicans In Consecutive Polls

From The Advocate

By: Mark Ballard

With a little more than eight weeks to go, polls are showing marginal differences between the major, if little known, candidates for state treasurer.

The campaigns, however, see the same anemic numbers as proof their candidates are breaking away from the pack in the Oct. 14 election.

A poll released Thursday by former state Rep. John Schroder showed that 18 percent of 811 likely voters questioned earlier this week would vote for the Covington Republican.

This gave him the lead in a second recent …

UPDATE: Special Session

The Regular Session ended yesterday as the Governor and the Senate stalled the House Republicans’ fiscally responsible plan that would lower the amount of a projected $1 billion budget shortfall. Like I’ve told you since day one, my number one goal this session has been to pass a budget that doesn’t raise your taxes and doesn’t spend 100% of our estimated revenue to prevent mid year budget cuts. I’m not going to be pressured by the media, the Senate, Democrats, or the Governor …

Resignation Speech

On Tuesday morning, June 6, I announced my resignation to my colleagues on the House floor. It has been an honor to serve in the Louisiana House of Representatives. I hope I am able to look back at my time here and say that I chose the needs of the people of this state and my district over the wants of special interests and politics. To say that I stood up for the taxpayers with political courage and did not waiver

As I close this chapter …
